Historical research is often about more than answering a simple question like, “When did this or that happen?” It can help uncover stories, develop connections and understanding, and provide context for the people, places, and objects that have shaped our lives and communities. I am passionate about piecing together a story and discovering the details that bring the past to light, helping clients with anything from learning the history of a family member or a historic property, to planning a commemorative event, to documenting an organization’s past, or even trying to better understand a historic object.
The goals of every project are different, so the forms in which research findings are delivered can take many forms, including written reports, historical narratives, timelines, exhibit and interpretive content, presentations, reference packets, and more. My goal is to provide research that is thorough, well-documented, provides important context, and is meaningful, accessible, and useful to the people who need it.
Archival work doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Whether you want to properly care for a box of family photographs, train a team of volunteers, make sense of a backlog of historical materials, or build an archives from the ground up, I can help you decide how to approach the work in a way that fits your goals, resources, and capacity.
Every collection and every organization is different, so there is no one-size-fits-all approach. I tailor my consulting work to fit the needs of each project. This may include collection assessments, preservation recommendations, trainings and workshops, policies and procedures development, strategies for strengthening or developing archival programs, and more! My goal is to help you create systems that are clear, manageable, and sustainable over time.
